AEO for Addiction RecoveryWhat was at stake
Individuals seeking help for addiction are in a state of extreme vulnerability. The provision of inaccurate or misleading information can delay recovery or, in the worst cases, cause significant harm. Trust is the most critical asset.
Why naïve AI would fail
Generic SEO strategies are designed to chase clicks and traffic. In the context of recovery, content must carefully balance hope, clinical accuracy, and profound honesty. Over-promising can shatter trust.

Judgment Calls
- •Prioritized clinical accuracy above all engagement metrics.
- •Developed content frameworks emphasizing empathy without manipulation.
- •Designed AI visibility systems explaining the reasoning behind answers.
What We Actually Built
Content generation system with 3-layer review: (1) AI drafts based on clinical guidelines, (2) Licensed clinician reviews for accuracy, (3) Empathy filter checks tone and messaging. Built custom "confidence scoring" that flags any content requiring additional human review.
Implemented "reasoning transparency" UI showing users why certain resources were recommended. Added human override button allowing clinicians to manually adjust any AI suggestion. System logs all overrides for continuous learning.
The Outcome
Higher user trust, longer engagement times, and improved conversion rates, not because the system was optimized for clicks, but because it was optimized for truth. Average session duration increased 65%. Clinical director reported: "This is the only system we trust for sensitive contexts."
